The First Crocus Emerges Alone: March 28 2014

The Crocus emerges like whisper,

Barely heard through cold winds,

Lonely, yet lovely

The spathe slips forward

Stretching toward sunlight.

  1. It’s been a long, long winter. So nice to see something hopeful. I saw some brave snowdrops in bloom the other day. I really like the poem. Did you write it?

Hi Carole. Thank you–yes, that one’s mine. Those first flowers really do give hope. Just about the time you give up believing anything will ever bloom, you get those first starts and then it seems like everything takes off and the birds are back, too!
